‘Tohoku no Shingetsu’

‘Shingetsu’ is a Japanese word meaning ‘new moon’, the moon that cannot be seen, yet still exists with all its power in the darkness of the night sky…like the people of Tohoku who find ways to express joy after much of their physical world disappears.

Please join us on Friday, June 24th, 7-9:00 pm at Hewett Hall (Doors open at 6p.m.) to watch this heartfelt and inspiring film about finding and sustaining hope and love in the midst of sudden, massive and ongoing devastation at the nexus the of 2011 man-made and natural environmental disaster of the Fukushima earthquake, tsunami and nuclear meltdown.

The film is mostly in Japanese with English subtitles, but also includes some spoken English. Here is the link to the YouTube trailer for A New Moon Over Tohoku.

This event will raise funds for our UCV refugee team via the Sheila Thompson Fund. Donations are sliding scale with $20.00 suggested amount.  All donations gratefully accepted, both larger or smaller as your circumstances allow.  Tax receipts will be available for amounts over $20.00.

Most importantly, we would like to see the UCV community show up in person (and bring friends) to experience this film in community – to experience the love, inspiration and hope this film and Linda Ohama herself imbue!
