We will meet in Biddle and via zoom to discuss The Night Watchman, by Louise Erdrich.
The Night Watchman is about tribal chairman Thomas Wazhashk’s efforts to fight against the push for Indian termination in 1953, which would have ignored prior U.S.-Native American treaties and resulted in the dispossession of Native American lands.
Based on the extraordinary life of National Book Award-winning author Louise Erdrich’s grandfather who worked as a night watchman and carried the fight against Native dispossession from rural North Dakota all the way to Washington, D.C., this powerful novel explores themes of love and death with lightness and gravity and unfolds with the elegant prose, sly humour, and depth of feeling of a master craftsman.
All are welcome.
Louise Erdrich is the author of sixteen novels, volumes of poetry, children’s books, and a memoir of early motherhood.
